Fees, HIdden Fees and MORE Fees! - Stay Away
MerchantOne is the first merchant company I worked with for my company and was referred by a fellow business owner. At first they were great. Super helpful getting you setup and getting me the terminal. Not much support for setup and to get any help they
require you to call (my guess now is that this is less of a paper trail to make it more difficult to track what one person said versus another). When I signed up I was told there was no long-term contract and no cancelation fees that I'd just be required to
return any hardware in order to avoid charges. I stayed with this company for almost 3 years and in the last 6-8 months every new statement includes yet another higher fee. What started as $8/month ish plus % per transaction was then added to with $80/month
fee (unidentified on the bill and every time I attempted to get an answer about what these charges were I was told 'We have very competitive rates so if you've got a written offer from a competitor please send that in and we will work to beat it." .... I got
very frustrated as that's not the question I was asking for I simply wanted a reason or classification for this growing monthly charge that was added on top of my monthly fee. In the final months this fee was $170-$200 for a month! My card volume or system
never changed in any way to elicit this new fee. And it was a bit shady that no one would tell me what it was for. They basically wore me down until I decided I didn't have the time to put into trying to get back these fees or even find out what they were
for. So when I emailed to cancel (I requested to speak via email so I would have the information in writing) I was sent a cancelation form that outlined that I would be charged a minimum of $295 (or $x fee per month for the remainder of the contract).....
What contract?!!?! They sent the original contract and no where in it was I able to find a time commitment. Yes somehow this just happened to expire in 4-5 months from when I requested cancelation (long enough to make the $295 fee less than the months $180ish
it was costing me so I threw in the towel and canceled). When on the phone I was told by one individual that there was no cancelation fee yet the form that same person sent me clearly states that there is a fee. I assume they expect you just to sign, send
back and then be on the hook for this fee. Yes, the provide merchant services and terminals and timely payment but they will bleed you dry with fees (unknown fees) and trying to get answers or find out any real information is impossible. I recommend ANYONE
else. Square, PayPal, PayJunction.
