Doing business with Optimum First to Refinance
|
2/11/2010 5:24 PM (PST)
I am trying to refinance my Mortgage Loan and add in my Home equity to have one payment. I have received several different companies offering me 5% 30 year fix. What worries me is the fees seem so different. So far Optimum First, Inc. has offered the best deal but I'm hesitant doing business over the phone and internet. I read the reviews for their company and most were positive. I know you can't please everyone, so there was a couple bad reviews, which scare me. They are accredited by the BBB and have a A rating. What ya think?

Valerie, If you haven't done so already, pull your own credit report and see if there are any booby traps in it. You can do this for free at www.annualcreditreport.com Or, you can pay about $45 bucks and get your score AND reports through www.myfico.com - then your broker can get an idea of your score and doing this yourself won't cause a "hard inquiry" to hit your credit score. It costs money though. Make sure your printer has lots of paper in it before you start.
At annualcreditreport.com you'll have to get through a gauntlet of sales pitches by the credit reporting bureaus for credit monitoring services & stuff - and don't fall for buying the credit bureau's own branded credit scores - these are not the ones that the lenders use.
Here are some articles on credit repair and credit reports from the Los Angeles BBB:
